How does an AGM work?

Never attended a really formal meeting before? Don’t worry! There’s a book we all use called Robert’s rules of Order, but we’ve got a cheat sheet for you.
In short, we try to run meetings fairly, so that everyone can have a chance to be heard and that actions(motions) are voted on in an informed and fair way.
The main points to remember are:
To speak:

Raise your hand (in person) or Put your name in the chat (zoom) to speak
Wait until the chair recognizes you to start speaking
You have two minutes and 1 chance to talk to an issue(motion)

There are all kinds of code phrases and types of talking that can happen, but this basic procedure will be enough to participate in the meeting.
Please remember that while others are talking, you should be listening. Even if you don’t like or agree with what they are saying, they are allowed to talk. Final opinions are given with the vote.
Voting:

By show of hands (in person) or zoom poll or voxvote (virtual)

Your options are yes, no or abstain. Abstaining means you abide by the majority rule, but do not voice an opinion yourself. Please do not default to abstain. Abstentions are primarily used for when people feel they cannot vote without clear personal financial bias. For instance, we always vote on the salary of the president and the executive assistants. For this motion the president and executive assistants will abstain from voting because it directly affects their financial situation.
